Rishi Sunak has welcomed Germany’s decision to agree to shipments of Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. The Prime Minister’s remarks came after Germany’s Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced on Wednesday that Berlin will provide the Ukrainian armed forces with the main battle tank. The u-turn came following mounting pressure on Chancellor Scholz both domestically and from Germany’s closest European and international partners. The Chancellor said: This decision follows our well-known line of supporting Ukraine to the best of our ability. We are acting in a closely coordinated manner internationally.” Responding to Germany’s announcement, Mr Sunak said: “The right decision by Nato allies and friends to send main battle tanks to Ukraine. Alongside Challenger 2s, they will strengthen Ukraine’s defensive firepower. Together, we are accelerating our efforts to ensure Ukraine wins this war and secures a lasting peace.”

Putin’s mouthpiece calls on Germany to be nuked in response to tank -turn

Russian propagandist Vladimir Solovyov has reacted to the decision of German Olaf Scholz to supply Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine by calling on Russia to carry out strikes on Germany. During his bombastic TV rant, Solovyov declared: “It’s time to send a clear, resolute message that we now consider Germany a direct party to the conflict, rekindling memories of WW2. German tanks appearing will definitely mean we consider German territory, military bases, and other sites as legitimate targets.”

Putin dealt heavy blow as Germany and NATO agree to donate 200 tanks

NATO members managed to pull together a plan to send battle tanks to Ukraine with Germany falling into line late on Tuesday after facing heavy international pressure. In total, 200 tanks are earmarked to be sent to support Ukrainian forces in the field. The arrival of German-made Leopard 2s and British Challenger 2 tanks will pose a serious threat to the Russian army and give Zelensky’s troops a serious offensive threat. Ukrainian crews will need to be trained in handling the new hardware which can rival Russia’s best available T90 tanks. Military analysts have stressed that the shipment of tanks and the training of Kyiv’s forces will need to be completed as fast as possible to ensure the new arrivals can have an impact on the frontlines in Eastern Ukraine before an expected Russian offensive in the Spring. Germany Olaf Sholz performed a U-turn over the supply of Leopard 2 tanks to the frontline, agreeing to send a reported 14 tanks after at first refusing to answer Kyiv’s pleas. Under the agreed plan the US will also be sending at least 30 M1 Abrams tanks. Russia’s ambassador to the US has described the development as “another blatant provocation”.

Russia plans new offensives warns NATO boss

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has called on members to boost military assistance to Ukraine amid concerns over an incoming Russian offensive. He told German outlet Welt: “There are no signs that President Putin has changed his goal of dominating Ukraine. There is nothing to indicate that he is preparing for peace. He is ready to sacrifice tens of thousands of Russian soldiers in this completely unjustified war. He has mobilised more than 200,000 troops, and plans to mobilise even more, and [he] is actively working to get more weapons from other authoritarian states such as Iran and North Korea. We know that Russia is planning new offensives, and we must be prepared for them. That is why it is so important that we continue to strengthen our support for Ukraine.”

Russia may deploy faulty ‘next-gen’ T-14 tanks, says MoD

The UK Defense Ministry daily intelligence report has suggested Russia is been working on preparing the new T-14 main battle tanks for its first deployment in the war against Ukraine. The briefing reads: “In recent months, deployed Russian forces were reluctant to accept the first tranche of T-14 allocated to them because the vehicles were in such poor condition.

“It is unclear exactly what aspects of the vehicles prompted this reaction, but within the last three years, Russian officials have publicly described problems with the T-14’s engine and thermal imaging systems.”
